Description:“A (very) quick look back at the Google story over the last 11 years. From Stanford to Mountain View and around the world, featuring many different products, starting with BackRub (Search) up to Google Wave, StreetView and Chrome.”
I believe this is one of the most fascinating company other then Twitter & Facebook, their successes with each milestone are not without failures of many small experimental projects that did not do well but they stick with their never say die attitude and focus on their core business of providing a elegant way to use the internet by providing the users a nice & clean search database that makes a lot of sense.
Their development from initially a small search engine to a major competitor against other search engines, email services, video sharing services, blogging, advertising, mobile OS to future cloud computing with Chrome OS in the future may means one day Google will be everywhere in your everyday life.
I do wish they can stick to their “Do no evil” mantra so that we can continue to support this great company while Google give us the users the benefits for supporting them.
All in all I wish Google best of luck & continue to be successful in the future in cooperation with other successful companies or up and coming mini explosive company such as Twitter.
Google had annonced in their official google blog that they are coming out with a brand new OS call Google Chrome OS!
It’s been an exciting nine months since we launched the Google Chrome browser. Already, over 30 million people use it regularly.
We designed Google Chrome for people who live on the web — searching for information, checking email, catching up on the news, shopping or just staying in touch with friends.
However, the operating systems that browsers run on were designed in an era where there was no web.
So today, we’re announcing a new project that’s a natural extension of Google Chrome — the Google Chrome Operating System. It’s our attempt to re-think what operating systems should be.
Google Chrome OS is an open source, lightweight operating system that will initially be targeted at netbooks.
Later this year we will open-source its code, and netbooks running Google Chrome OS will be available for consumers in the second half of 2010.
Because we’re already talking to partners about the project, and we’ll soon be working with the open source community, we wanted to share our vision now so everyone understands what we are trying to achieve.
- So, does this google Chrome OS be a serious threat against Microsoft’s Windows & Apple’s MacOs or even Open source’s Linux?
According to Official Google Blog:
At Google, we have a saying: “launch early and iterate.” While this approach is usually limited to our engineers, it apparently applies to our mailroom as well! As you may have read in the blogosphere, we hit “send” a bit early on a comic book introducing our new open source browser, Google Chrome.
As we believe in access to information for everyone, we’ve now made the comic publicly available — you can find it here. We will be launching the beta version of Google Chrome tomorrow in more than 100 countries.
….This is just the beginning — Google Chrome is far from done. We’re releasing this beta for Windows to start the broader discussion and hear from you as quickly as possible. We’re hard at work building versions for Mac and Linux too, and will continue to make it even faster and more robust. Read the full article at Official Google Blog!!
- World rejoice to the latest offering from our favorite search engine!! An internet web browser! This will definitely be the latest hurdle that Google need to clear for developing useful web software such as Google lively that encountered several errors using different browsers and operating system.
However, web programmers like me and my colleagues are dreading the prospect of requirement to support yet another web browser. Old websites programmed using old programming languages might not look the same or may not even function properly….
but obviously Google have the resource to actually fix the problems given their almost unlimited budget unlike the “other” browser.
Update: After viewing a comic from Google explaining more about the new Google Chrome web browser, I am extremely pleased that Google had include “Gears” that allow developers be able to develop web application that can be cross-platform to other browsers as well.
This means less headache supporting websites designed on Google Chrome and it’s a full open sourced web browser makes it easier for other browsers to implement similar ideas.
Lets hope that Google can deliver yet another powerful software that can empower everyone that uses the internet!
I am seriously excited with the new browsers no doubt there might be bugs on the initial release but I seriously believe it will be resolved very quickly.
