Kindle Fire Specification Review

Pros

  1. Cloud web surfing – supposedly faster loading web browser
  2. Amazon’s 18 millions of movies/songs/apps
  3. 7″ Vibrant Color IPS display
  4. Cheap $199?
  5. 14.6 ounces (Lighter than iPad 2)

Cons

  1. Only have 8GB space? OMG that’s too little!! Even thou it’s being advertised as 8GB for 80 apps plus either 10 movies or 800 songs or 6,000 books We all know that’s marketing talk bullshix that means you may have to managed which apps/movies/music to remove from your device daily so that you won’t find your tablet “frozen” due to lack of free space for the system to run properly.
  2. Lower Battery life – it’s not the usual 3 weeks to 2 months battery life anymore it’s 8 hours continuous reading or 7.5 hours video playback. Just remember to bring your charger.
  3. WIFI Only - seriously with only 8GB space, you can’t bring enough games with you on your travel to locations without WIFI long enough. I think 3G version can be made but not practical as the battery life will be further reduced.
  4. Amazon Silk – Cloud browser does things behind the scene caching your cookies, resizing your images automatically via Amazon Cloud. Several questions below comes about.
    - Does Amazon cloud serve people outside USA as fast?
    - Does the cloud computing cache our passwords as well?
    - Does Amazon cloud give us privacy browsing?
    - Is there an option to get bigger images toggle?
  5. No Camera – Seriously that means camera apps are not supported & no video chat.
  6. 7.5″ x 4.7″ x 0.45″ (190 mm x 120 mm x 11.4 mm) – This size is neither phone size or big enough for tablets but this in between can only favor the ladies that have small hand bags & guys with big side pockets. Well, personally the size is way too small for my comfort levels for movies watching on the move but I understand the desire for lighter in weight as holding iPad 2 for too long can be tiring.
  7. No Microphone – That means no audio input, sorry no skype, no google voice, no voice commands & no voice to text.
  8. No GPS – That means no google map, no turn by turn
  9. No Compass & gyroscope – Sorry no games using these

Overall, I think I will only recommend Amazon Fire to people staying in USA & can tolerate less apps (removing apps that uses camera, gps, gyroscope, microphone, 3G) and perfectly happy with 8 to 7.5 hours of battery life (or less if playing games).

For Apple Fans, don’t even bother with this. :D

Why twitter will win the social network race.

I like to put many technologies into comparison and analyze the possible outcome based on actions & reactions by the people in charge.

Twitter have the following advantages.

  1. No Real name policies, in fact they do have that that essentially, with the real conversations by the user…they have basically can find out the person’s identities & network.
  2. Easy to manage privacy settings, it’s simple just set public or private & only followers can see what you post there is no confusion!
  3. The following & followed method is much cleaner and can weed out unwanted spam & vulgar users by “unfollowing” them hence this method auto self moderate the users
  4. 140 characters means you spend less time to read more topics, you don’t waste the whole day filtering long post unless it’s a blog post that you are interested in.
  5. It’s like a conversation, the threaded conversations & notifications makes twitter feels more like a personal instant messaging tool instead of micro blogging that it was once described as.
  6. Multiple clients support & cross platform, understanding twitter is the ONLY 100% cross platform social network that have above average satisfactory applications for all devices naming iPhone, iPad, Andriod and even feature phones.
  7. There’s no vulgarities & ugly people in twitter just unfollow them! Simple!

There are probably a lot more reasons why you may think twitter is so much better then the rest of the competition but facebook comes a close 2nd place for me.

The reason facebook is 2nd place because of confusing privacy settings, advertising privacy horrors and of course more game invitations spam, I know they had improved over the years but the feeling linger on and it’s hard to push the feeling away.

Google+ had a great beginning as most people are familiar on how a social network works but google+ essentially started off too fast with some troubling policies problems to begin with, if they change their policies (Real name policies) & put profanity filters (replace vulgar words with nicer sounding words or ****) into every part of google+ it will probably work well.

However, if google+ don’t act fast enough and managed the PR nightmare of pissing off many influential people in the global communities by deleting accounts due to the real name policies…google+ may end up to be another Google Buzz or Google Wave yet again.

Overall, twitter have my best votes & the only thing twitter needs to do is to open up their commercial departments to allow advertisers search twitter for keywords related to their products & or services & allow these advertisers to “assist” or “recommend” a viable product or services to HELP the twitter user.

However, it should not be a tweet bot that automate tweeting by detecting keywords as there are no “replies” for confirmation if the “product” is actually real or worth it.

Human can sense another auto tweet easily hence a real person should be behind the twitter account offering assistance or “recommendation” in a way a sales person will say but in a more friendly & personal way like a friend’s recommendations.

Twitter should take the Google Deal

According to Business Insiders:

Facebook is emerging as a serious threat to Google’s core business, and Twitter is the only “social” company Google can buy that might have a chance of combating this.

Twitter should take the $4 billion USD Google offer!!!!

Let’s list the reasons why

  1. Twitter needs a platform as robust as Google Search to display relevant real time twitter results with advertisement!
  2. Google needs a successful social network to display real time search results based on events happening now!
  3. Google MAY be able to recreate another social network with similar or better features in a short time if needed
  4. Twitter MAY get serious competition from other social networks like facebook as facebook employs more twitter like features.
  5. Twitter MAY comes out with their own search but will never be as relevant as Google indexed search with proper algorithm for better results but may be good for real time news results but may never be as profitable without a proper way to monetize the result page properly
  6. If twitter is integrated into google search result, Google shall have the ultimate source of information gathering center for real time & indexed information online! With a new algorithm of most “shared” sorting probably give both twitter & Google the edge against facebook

This is a win win situation for twitter but maybe twitter is waiting for something, maybe even a bigger price tag?

The situation is will Google offer more money for twitter or make one themselves? Twitter is popular as it revolutionize news aggregation, communications, social networking and more using just the 140 characters words with good & SIMPLE privacy controls but it still lacks other things that makes facebook a tough competitor.

It lacks

  1. Automatic shorten URL
  2. In-line image/video preview thumbnail
  3. URL “voting”, “like”, “digg” number in URL mouse-over highlight
  4. Youtube like “search options” to sort search results
  5. “Reply to all” option (for easier #followfriday #FF)
  6. Cross platform emotion icons (Similar to emoji icons)
  7. Real human trends that totally eliminate API auto generated bots tweets
  8. Better ranking system based on influence level and not quantity of followers
  9. I can think of a lot more…if I can sit down with twitter OR Google and brain storm
